The purpose of the Unite Show is to celebrate the great things happening in and around the ABC Unified School District. As the title of the show suggests The Unite Show is designed to "unite" the district's students, teachers and educators, parents and community members. The Show unites everyone around an entertaining and informative production that focuses on stories, interviews and performance that celebrate all the people who contribute to teaching and learning in ABC.

Unite Show highlights includes the show's talented host, Jim Keating, teacher at Ross Middle School. Jim brings his background to the stage as a working stand-up comedian and his love for teaching and learning with students at Ross Middle School where he serves as an English teacher. Jim has a zeal and appreciation for the act of learning and teaching and he celebrates the incredible talents the district's students and staff bring to the studio. Jim informs the public of the heroic work all district employees provide from teachers to bus drivers to maintenance to administration and helps make the information understandable and entertaining for the general viewing audience.

Like the title "Unite Show" suggests, overtones of the Tonight Show come to mind by design. Host Jim Keating regularly mixes it up with his side kick Allan Hallback, Director of the Unite Show Band. The Unite Show Band is comprised of the hottest ABC All Star Jazz Band students from the ABC secondary schools. The Unite Show Band performs live at every show and always raises the energy to exciting levels.

Each month's the Unite Show hosts a live studio audience. Every show schedules live studio performances from students, staff and community members. The show strives to highlight the variety of accomplishments made in the fine arts in the local area. Everything from musical performance, the unveiling of fine art, dance and acting have performed under the lights of the Unite Show set. Most recently Casey Simpson, Cerritos High School Graduate and rising county music star appeared on the show where she talked with Jim about her experiences as a finalist on TNT's "Nashville Star" television show (country music's equivalent of American Idol). Casey sang a song for the December show audience and left them breathless. This episode will air on cable and be available on this web page in Mid-December.

The show's guests have included Dr. Gary Smuts, Principal Sergio Garcia and the Artesia High School math department, CyberGal - Mary White, Osvaldo Palhinha (The Unite Show's own Hewell Howser), Veronica Bloomfield of the Artesia Historical Society, Padmini Prabhakar Cerritos City Librarian, Health Beat - Suzanne Heinrich - teacher at Furgeson Elementary School, Genesis Cabug - student at Cerritos High School, Principals LuAnn Adler (Juarez ES), Principal Beth Bray (Elliot ES), Kathy Frazier - Director of Schools, Ron Parks (teacher Cerritos HS and Curator of the District Art Show). Student performances shave included concert pianist Ray Cheng, a 5th grade student at Leal ES, the Ross Orchestra under director Jimmy Brink, (list others here).

Each month a new Unite Show is produced and aired. Three shows are currently streaming from our website, with plans for October and November of 2006 to be available in mid-December via this web site. DVD copies of each show will be soon available for students (and their parents) via ABC school libraries on a check-out basis. Students may check out a copy of the DVD with their valid school library card. In addition, the Cerritos Public Library will maintain the entire Unite Show collection for check out to the public. The DVD is by far the best way to view the program. The Unite Show's monthly DVD will also soon be available for purchase and be available on a subscription basis.

The show was originally created by former Assistant Superintendent, Lon Brunk, under the title the "The ABC Hour". Colin Sprigg, Director of IT and Greg Porter, Television Production teacher at Tetzlaff Middle School took on the production of the ABC Hour in 2005-2006 creating what is now the ABC Unite Show. The show is made possible by the overwhelming number of volunteer students, parents and district staff who contribute each month to the production of the show. We hope you enjoy the show as we bring the great things happening in and around ABC Unified to life. Unite!
